Learning Conversation - Year 1, 2, 3 and 4 - Astronomy 08.11.19

8 November 2019 (by Patricia Page (admin))

This week, your child took part in a Creative Curriculum Day. One aspect of this was an astronomy lesson.

Here are some follow up tasks you could enjoy together.

1) In your book, draw the stars in the night time sky. Can you use your planisphere to help you identify their names?

2) Write a story about space, it could be a true story or a fictitious story about aliens/astronauts or an adventure to another galaxy.

3) Research about our next nearest star. What is its name? How far is it away? Is it bigger or smaller than our own
star (the Sun)?

4) Create a moon diary by looking at the moon every night for 5/6 nights in a row and drawing what it looks like on the different nights

5) Become an astronomer by using a telescope to observe the night sky, or use this online telescope to observe our galaxy  http://www.worldwidetelescope.org/webclient/

5) Download the Sky View app (found below) and explore the night time sky together. Can you locate the International Space Station? Who can find their Zodiac sign from the many constellations above us?

The Sky View app can be downloaded on Android
