Maths Learning Conversation Year 2

At this time of year we focus on addition and subtraction facts starting with 5, moving on to 10, then to 20. For example:

0+5= 5 5-0=5

1+4= 5 5-1=4

2+3= 5 5-2=3

3+2=5 5-3=2

4+1=5 5-4=1

5+0=5 5-5=0

As part of the Key Stage 1 SATs and moderation, pupils are expected to be able to recall some or all of these from memory. You can help your child by practising writing these out with them so that they can see the pattern. You can ask them to recall a few of them each day and this will help them to recall them from memory too. We are working on this aspect of maths this term as part of number and calculation.
